Marketing / Cost Targets

Every product idea needs to be evaluated for viability and where it would fit in the market for that class of device. Some of the main factors that need to be determined are:

  • Target retail costs
  • How the product will be packaged
  • Annual volume
  • Product life

While this seems like a simple list, the determination of these factors is often not straight forward, can be a significant expense, and is always subject to uncertainty. This information is important because it is used to determine capital equipment requirements and has a significant effect on long term product cost.
